How to use

  1. Enter your age and smoking status. Add your age and whether you smoke. Premiums rise with age, and smokers typically pay two to three times more.
  2. Choose cover amount. Set the lump sum you want the policy to pay out. Premiums scale with the amount of cover.
  3. Pick a term and health. Choose a term from 10 to 30 years and your general health. Longer terms and poorer health raise the premium.
  4. Review your estimate. See your estimated monthly and annual premium, the typical range, and a term-by-term comparison.

Features

  • Gender-neutral pricing. Follows UK rules by not rating on sex, so men and women see the same base pricing — a genuine market difference from the US.
  • UK term-life factors. Uses age, smoking, cover amount, term length and health — the core levers UK life insurers underwrite on.
  • Monthly, annual and a range. Shows both monthly and annual cost plus a low–high band for the spread between insurers.
  • Term comparison. Compares 10- to 30-year terms so you can see how a longer policy changes the cost.
  • 100% private. All maths runs in your browser. Your details are never uploaded, stored or shared.

When to use it

  • Estimating cover to pay off a UK mortgage if you die
  • Comparing a 20-year versus 25-year term in pounds
  • Seeing how much smoking adds to your premium
  • Choosing a cover amount before applying
  • Budgeting family protection alongside other bills

Is it private?

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real life insurance quote?

No. It is an educational estimate for level term assurance based on published UK averages. Real prices depend on underwriting and the insurer, so get quotes for exact figures.

Why is there no option for sex?

Since the 2012 EU gender ruling, UK insurers must price life cover on a gender-neutral basis, so sex cannot be used as a rating factor. That is why it is deliberately absent here.

What type of cover does it estimate?

Level term assurance, which pays a fixed tax-free lump sum if you die within the term. Whole-of-life and over-50s plans work differently and are priced separately.

How does cover amount affect the price?

The premium scales roughly with the payout, so a larger sum assured means a proportionally higher premium, all else equal.

Do the rates stay accurate?

Term-life pricing is fairly stable, but market averages still shift over time, so each estimate shows its data vintage.

Is my information private?
