Frequently asked questions
Is this currency converter free and private?
Yes. It is completely free with no signup or limits. The conversion happens in your browser; only the public exchange-rate request is sent to the Frankfurter API to fetch current rates, and the amounts you enter are never uploaded or stored.
Where do the exchange rates come from and how often are they updated?
Rates come from the free Frankfurter API, which serves the European Central Bank's euro foreign exchange reference rates. The ECB publishes these once per working day at around 16:00 CET, so rates do not change on weekends or ECB holidays. Fetched rates are cached in your browser between updates.
How is the conversion calculated?
Converted amount = your amount multiplied by the current exchange rate between the two currencies. The rate is the ECB reference (mid-market) rate, with no buy/sell spread added. The exact rate used is always shown with your result.
Will I actually get this rate from my bank or card?
Usually not. ECB reference rates are indicative mid-market rates published for information only. Banks, card networks, and money-transfer services add a margin or fee, so the real rate you receive is typically a little worse. Treat this as a reference, not the guaranteed transaction rate.
Is this financial advice?
No. This tool is for general information and educational use only. Results are estimates based on indicative reference rates and may differ from live market or retail rates. For actual transactions, confirm the rate with your bank or provider.
Why might the rate look out of date on a weekend?
The ECB only publishes reference rates on working days. On weekends and holidays you will see the most recent published rate, which stays fixed until the next business-day update.
